1.Write suitable sources for direct current supply

Dry cells, batteries. DC generators are providing direct current supply to circuits

2.List sources provides alternating supply.

In natural no sources are provides alternating supply. But it can be generated using Alternator (AC Generator). So, an alternator can be considered as alternating supply source.

3. Define resistance

Resistance is a property of virtue , provides opposition force to flow electric current through it.

4. List combination of resistors can be connected in a circuit

  1. Series combination
  2. Parallel combination
  3. Series parallel combination

5.Write  equation to find resultant resistance in parallel circuit

Resultant resistance RT = R1+R2+R3+………….+Rn

6. A circuit has five resistor values. Largest and smallest resistors are connected in circuit is 10 ohm and 4 ohm respectively. What will be minimum resistance in that circuit?

Total resistance of a series circuit will be greater than maximum value connected in it. So, its total resistance must be greater than 10 ohm

7. A series circuit formed with 5 nos 10 ohms resistors. What will be the resultant resistance

If a series circuit contains all resistors with identical value, its total resistor can be calculated with multiplying one resistor value with number of resistors connected in it. So total resistance of above circuit is equal to 50 ohm (5 x10 ohm) ( n x R).

8. Does each resistor carries different current values in series circuit?

No. As series circuit has single current path all resistors are carrying same magnitude of current.

9. Formulate relation between supply voltage and voltage drop in individual resistor in series circuit

In a series circuit sum of voltage drop across all voltage is equal to total voltage applied to entire circuit.

VT = V1+V2+V3+………….+Vn

10. Write equation for resultant resistance is parallel circuit

Resultant resistance 1/RT = 1/R1 +1/R2 +1/R3+………….+1/Rn

11. A parallel circuit made with 5 number of resistors. There is least resistance value is 2 ohm and maximum resistance value is 25 ohms. What will be total resistance value?

In a parallel circuit total resistance will be less than least value of resistor connected in it. So, its total resistance must be less than 2 ohm.

12. A parallel circuit connected with 5 numbers 50-ohm resistors. Calculate resultant resistance in circuit.

In a parallel circuit , if ‘n’ number of equal value of connected, then its resultant resistance will be value of one resistor divided by number of resistors connected in circuit. So total resistance is equal to 50/5 = 10 ohm (50/5) (R/n).

13. A parallel circuit made with resistor value R,2R,3R,4R,5R. derive relationship of voltage drop across each resistor

In a parallel circuit all resistors are connected across supply voltage . Hence voltage drop across any individual resistor will be equal to supply voltage to circuit.

14. With refer to question no-13, derive relationship of current flowing through each resistor

In a parallel circuit current path is equal to number of resistors connected in it. So current flowing through each resistor follows I = V/R formula. Since voltage kept constant current flowing though resistor is inversely to its magnitude.

15. Why all loads connected in parallel in consumer side?

By connecting individual loads in parallel , it gets its rated supply voltage. So, it consumes its actual power and provide better output. Further it is individually connected from other loads. If there any disturbance in an individual load , other loads can operate without any disturbance.

16. Why control elements are connected in series connection?

A control element important function to control loads. It should not operate individually. Hence it is connected in series connection.

17. Suddenly one resistor short circuit in series circuit. What are changes will happen in a series circuit

  1. Total resistance will be Rt – R (short circuited resistance)
  2. As resultant resistance decreased , net current flows through circuit increases
  3. It increases voltage drop across resistor increases
  4. Power consumed by each resistor increases

18. Consider a resistor broken in parallel circuit. What are changes will be there?

As one resistor broken it disconnect current path of series circuit, Total circuit will not be in operational

19. Suddenly One resistor in parallel circuit short circuited. What will happen?

Due to short circuit of parallel circuit, short circuit path appears across supply voltage. So abnormal current will flow through circuit. Further it damages source.

20. Consider a resistor broken in parallel circuit. What are changes will be there?

As each resistor connected across supply voltage individually, it does not affect other element. So, no changes will be there.
